It was just last week that Morgan and I walked into a Caribou Coffee in St. Paul. The trivia question was "Where is Paisley Park?" I was able to correctly answer Chanhassen. He had just given a concert the night before and one of the Baristas had been there.
So today's news of his death took me by surprise.
I don't have much to say about him really. His music was part of the environment I grew up in, but I never quite fancied it.
The juxtaposition of that trivia question and the news of his death is sort of a memento mori, I guess. It strikes close to home when you share a metro area with someone that high profile.

Yes indeed; I lived in the little town of Camarillo, California — and I remember when the movie Titanic came out accompanied by endless special TV features and documentaries.
So when one local boy went to church there, whole streets were shut down from people crowding in to have a look at Leonardo DiCaprio.
He no longer attends, to the relief of the church and many locals at least.

I generally think it is good for Israel to be diversifying, and I think Russia is taking the threat of Islamism seriously.
The US is not. And I don't see that changing. Even Trump seems likely to respond with political theatre that will inconvenience the uninvolved while leaving the machinery intact
